| Knowledge Leadership Humaneers Management’s challenge now extends to mastering the inherent complexity of knowledge and service operations (KSO). Doing so requires mastery of relevant knowledge from the biological, psychological and social sciences. This challenge is more easily met by management with direct support from specialists—humaneers—with the requisite knowledge of humaneering technology. The role of “humaneer” justifies itself by providing support and developing initiatives that create immediate value-added for an enterprise. Though managers remain the driving force for all improvements and need to support this work, utilizing humaneers will reduce the time it takes for managers to acquire and deploy humaneering technology. Furthermore, it will not be enough that these internal consultants have the knowledge to improve the performance and productivity of knowledge workers; they must also demonstrate their competence as leaders of planned change within organizations. For these new consultants, the biological, psychological and social sciences provide many insights into human work and organizations, and provide more effective methods for making improvements in knowledge and service work operations (KSO). A humaneering-based approach to the work of internal consultants is introduced in Jim Pepitone’s latest book, Human Performance Consulting: Transforming Human Potential into Productive Business Performance (Pepitone, James S., London: Butterworth-Heinemann, 2000). pepitoneworldwide is routinely sought after to educate industry and government executives on the valuable knowledge and insights we have gained from our development and application of humaneering technology. We also provide customized training, development, and apprenticeship initiatives for major companies that are developing people for an internal consulting role. |
