| Knowledge Leadership Management Frontiers Since the mid-1980s, Jim Pepitone and his colleagues have been working to compile from scientists worldwide an integrated set of scientific principles for improving the work performance and productivity of knowledge and service workersprinciples that optimize the aspects of human work that are dependent on human nature. This body of knowledge is now emerging among the fields and disciplines of science as the applied science of Organization Productivity and principal methodology, humaneering. Though still in its infancy, this knowledge consistently unleashes dramatic improvements when applied to the performance and productivity of organization-based operations. Of great significance to practitioners, this knowledge has come from many established branches of science, streams of research, practice disciplines and fields of inquiryfrom sources as diverse as medicine, corporate strategy, work design, psychology, industrial engineering, management science, sociology, organization design, compensation, organization behavior, industrial management, economics, management accounting, cybernetics and anthropology . . . to name several. Furthermore, the effort to integrate this knowledge into a single comprehensive methodology has resolved a popular, yet mistaken, perception that science-based knowledge is mutually exclusivethat there is only one true explanation for what happens. Indeed, this has been a fundamental tenant of science from its birth as a helpful way to understand the world. The researchers came to appreciate that all scientific laws, supported theories, and substantiated models can, in fact, be simultaneously valid and complementary explanations of human nature . . . perhaps dependent only on certain circumstances for their predicted or described effect to be demonstrated. Once they quit trying to prove or disprove theories and simply focused on understanding the conditions under which the theories explained (i.e., caused) reality, they were then able to make significant headway in their effort to piece together the code on human and organizational performance. This research now continues within pepitoneworldwide, and will soon lead to the launching of a new institute of science. Because the source knowledge for these developments often came freely through the research efforts of dedicated scientists and the early trials of supportive clients, pepitoneworldwide is committed to openly sharing the resulting developments. pepitoneworldwide will be contributing its knowledge base to this new institute, and will continue to provide research support. Powerful new concepts and methods continue to emerge almost routinely. |
